Mitchell & Webber

Mitchell & Webber are proud to have been the first company in the country to trial a new renewable fuel in a property in Redruth, Cornwall which commenced in November 2020. The fuel has performed extremely well with the boiler performing as well as traditional fossil fuel. The fossil-free fuel, called Hydrotreated Vegetable oil (HVO), is produced from certified waste fats and oils. Unlike previous biofuels, HVO is manufactured by a synthesised process with hydrogen, to create a renewable fuel that can save up to 90% net greenhouse gas CO2 emissions. The HVO trials are supported by OFTEC and UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association(UKIFDA), and is certified sustainable fuel by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification(ISCC).

QM Recycled Energy (QMRE)

QMRE distributes Biofabrik WASTX plastic plant and WASTX oil cleaning equipment throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland. Utilising  pyrolysis technology, plastic waste is size-reduced and fed into a storage silo via a vacuum system. The size reduced waste plastic pieces are agitated. This material is propelled by an Archimedes screw and is fed into a stuffer unit; an extruder turns it into a mass with a putty-like consistency and the material is then fed into what is effectively a thermal kettle which heats the material to between 450-500 degrees centigrade. The subsequent gas created is fed into the system's GenSet generator while the liquids flow into two cooling towers and the outturn is dispensed as a Syn-crude called Quel. All processes are computer-controlled and can be run remotely.

The lightest fraction of gas that does not liquify is cleaned and combusted in a GenSet dual fuel generator. The emissions are less than 20% of the standard fossil fuel figures. Quel, the Syn-crude produced, has already been purified to make plastic so when the process is reversed the end product is 100% suitable to crack back in to plastic and use as a low carbon fossil fuel additive. The Syn-crude is naturally low sulphur and low emission when combusted - we recommend the product is converted by a Refinery to maximise it’s potential. For more information please visit www.qmre.ltd where there are videos of the production process.
